OREANDA-NEWS. December 20, 2011. On December 16, Energia Pecem – the thermoelectric power plant, an EDP- MPX joint venture,  in the Municipality of  Sao Goncalo do Amarante, will deliver the works of construction and enlargement of  two schools to receive 1,700 children and teenagers  who live in the region.  The BRL  5.6 million investment is part of the budget of the Urban Structure Adjustment project, a joint initiative of MPX and the municipality city hall, and is one of the actions of the Environmental Control and Monitoring Program (PCMA, acronym in Portuguese) designed for the thermal plant.  The event is scheduled to start at 2:30 pm, at Taiba, with the official opening of Escola de Educacao Basica Professora Alba Herculano Araujo. Next, at 4:30 pm, MPX and  Ceara state administration representatives and  the mayor of Sao Goncalo do Amarante Walter Ramos de Araujo Junior will go to Escola Waldemar Alcantara, in the downtown area of Sao Goncalo.

The Taiba District will receive a brand new unit for  Fundamental School (Elementary and Junior High School) students of the region.  The construction of this  teaching unit for 1,300 students started in April, 2011 and will deliver a total construction area of 4,318.90 m2. The new school has 20 classrooms,  library, kitchen and lunch room, four laboratories, school office, Education Department and a multisport court to encourage region teenagers to engage in sport practice.

The second project is the enlargement of  Escola Waldemar Alcantara, in the downtown area of Sao Goncalo do Amarante, which will add 1000 m2  to current school premises.  On  budget of  BRL   1.09 million,  by the end of the works the school will have an infrastructure of six classrooms, library, boys and girls change rooms, a water tank and reservoir and a grass soccer field.
