OREANDA-NEWS. December 27, 2011. By November, Baosteel Ltd. had saved 266,000t of standard coal accumulatively, 22,000t more than the same period of last year, completing the annual target of saving 250,000t standard coal in advance.

This year is the starting year of "12th 5-year" planning. According to the government's relevant requirements for Baosteel, the Energy & Environmental Department of Baosteel Ltd. formulated the target and measure of "saving 250,000t of standard coal" in the beginning of this year. Through the measures of establishing and perfecting the energy system construction, promoting the technical revamping project for energy saving and energy performance contracting and other energy cost improvement work, Baosteel laid the solid foundation for accomplishing the annual energy saving target in advance.

In March this year, after the headquarters of Baosteel Ltd. got the national certification of energy management system, Baosteel Ltd. rapidly promoted the energy control mode with features of "3 flow and 1 status" to Meishan Steel, Stainless Steel Business Unit and Special Steel Business Unit, etc., assisted and instructed them to set up and operate the energy management system to realize refined operation of energy. According to the "3 flow and 1 status" energy management requirements, each unit actively carried out the total process identification of energy consumption sources and energy efficiency factors participated by all the staff, and identified 34332 energy consumption sources and 723 energy efficiency factors. Control measures are implemented on critical energy efficiency factors and important energy consumption sources, the requirements of energy consumption source in each post are fulfilled preliminarily, which effectively promoted energy conservation and emission reduction.

The advantages of special energy saving planning and EPC project promotion are brought into play actively, over 50 integral special planning projects including "Updating and replacement of high efficiency motors" are planned by giving play to the integral technical advantages of the company, the rapid channel for application of energy saving technologies featuring one time planning, implementation in steps and rapid promotion is formed. Meanwhile, the management flow of energy contract projects is further perfected, and energy contract projects are promoted rapidly.

The promotion of energy saving in process step is sustained and the energy consumption of process steps is reduced through optimization of production process and normalization of operation specifications. The Manufacturing Management Department of Baosteel Ltd. has achieved remarkable effects in the implementation of hot delivery and hot charge. "Temperature for time" process energy saving work is carried out in 1580 hot rolling, as a result of which, the average in-furnace time in the silicon steel process is reduced by 8.46 minutes, the average rolling cycle is improved by 7.01 seconds per coil, the in-furnace time of carbon steel is reduced by 7.52 minutes, and the average rolling cycle is improved by 6.23 seconds per coil. Class 1 clean production standard was reached in the second quarter this year. "All-weather hot charge" is promoted in 1880 line, during which the process energy consumption of a single day reached 76 kg standard coal per ton, fulfilling class 3 clean production standard. The hot rolling process of Baosteel Ltd. reduces energy consumption by 90,000t standard coal.
