OREANDA-NEWS. October 5, 2012.  On the 5th of October "Rusatom Overseas" took part in NIASA Nuclear Empowerment Conference (Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa). 

During the session Vice-president of "Rusatom Overseas" Ivo Kouklik made a presentation "Social-Economic Impact of NPP Construction Projects. Rosatom as a Fully-Integrated Responsible Vendor". Mr Kouklik devoted much attention to the localization opportunities and effects for South Africa. "Our estimation is, that companies in South Africa would be currently able to supply ca. 40% of the planned nuclear power plants." Estimated benefits for South Africa from localization program during construction could be: additional revenues for local companies - USD 15 bln., additional tax collection - USD 3,4 bln., new employees required - 15 000.

The program for the conference covered the following topics: nuclear industry outlook; developments on implementation of SA’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP2010); industry perspective on readiness for the nuclear new build program; the role of technology as a driver for economic development; overview of opportunities for localization within the Nuclear Power Plant Vendor’s technology offerings; supplier development to meet nuclear requirements. In addition "Rusatom Overseas" presented an exhibition stand.
