OREANDA-NEWS. December 03, 2012.  On the 30th of November Sergey Boyarkin, Director of ROSATOM’s programs spoke to the VII Energy Forum in Sopot (Poland).

In his presentation he focused on ROSATOM’s vision of the world nuclear power development and role of the Russian technologies in this development. He especially noted that the situation at Fukushima-Daiichi had had a small effect on the nuclear power development plans and led to just an 11% decrease. With this, ROSATOM’s foreign market orders portfolio grew from 12 up to 21 reactors. “This confirms that nuclear power has survived through the post-Fukushima events and will continue to develop,” Boyarkin noted.

He also informed the audience on the implementation of ROSATOM’s ongoing nuclear build projects and safety systems used at Generation III+ nuclear power plants of the Russian design. With this, he emphasized that reactors of the Russian design were operated in five countries of the European Union and had successfully passed all stress tests. Boyarkin stressed nuclear power was the area of the close international cooperation in the field of reactor construction. “For example, Russia’s exclusive supplies of technologies and equipment comprise only 15% of the reactor construction cost; the rest can be manufactured in the country where our reactors are to be built. For instance, in the Czech Republic, if the tender for construction of reactors at Temelin is won, 75% of the equipment will be manufactured by the Czech companies. With this, already today the equipment from the EU countries is widely used at Russia’s plants. For example, the Czech producers have been awarded contracts for equipment supplies to Baltic NPP that in total worth EUR200 million, and Alstom has won an open-type tender for a turbine supply contract worth EUR1 billion,” he said.

The VII Energy Forum is focused on the most serious issues that face power generation sector of economy of all world countries. The two-day conference was attended by about 400 politicians, businessmen and expert from Europe, the USA, Central Asia and Russia. The conference special guests included representatives of the Polish Government, namely, Mikolaj Budzanowski, the Minister of State Treasury, and Slawomir Nowak, the Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy.

The Energy Forum in Sopot is held already for the seventh time. Over the period of its existence this annual conference, which is organized by the Polish Institute of Eastern Studies, has become the key platform for open discussions of current energy problems in the Central and Eastern Europe.
