OREANDA-NEWS. November 28, 2013. At the III BRICS International Competition Conference the Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Igor Artemiev had a meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for competition policy Mr. Joaquin Almunia.

Under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding concluded between FAS Russia and the Directorate General on Competition of the European Commission on 9th March 2011, Igor Artemiev and Joaquin Almunia discussed intensification of cooperation and coordination of efforts by the two bodies, particularly in investigating cross-border violations of the antimonopoly law.

Igor Artemiev also informed Joaquin Almunia about FAS work towards harmonizing Russia’s antimonopoly law in line with the best world practices and the recommendations issued by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and emphasized pursuance of result-oriented cooperation between the Directorate General on Competition and Russian antimonopoly authority in the field of competition in the form of joint consultations, workshops and training of experts from FAS and DG Comp.

Joaquin Almunia, in his turn, also stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts aimed at intensifying cooperation between FAS and DG Comp. In his opinion, it will undoubtedly have a positive impact upon the state of competition both in Russia and the European Union.
