OREANDA-NEWS. January 15, 2014. According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways' network carried 1.0808 billion passengers in 2013, an increase of 2.1% on 2012. Long-distance passenger numbers were down to 110.7 million passengers, a decline of 5%, while suburban commuters were up 3% to 970.1 million.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways' infrastructure in 2013 decreased by 4.2% compared to the previous year and amounted to 138.5 billion passenger-kilometres. Long-distance passenger numbers fell to 105.7 billion, a decline of 6.4%, while suburban commuters rose 3.6 % to 32.7 billion.

According to the latest figures, in December 2013, 89.2 million passengers travelled on the Company's network, 3.2 % more than in December 2012. Suburban passenger numbers were up 4.5% to 80.9 million, while long-distance passengers fell to 8.3 million, a decline of 8.1%.

Passenger turnover in December 2013 amounted to 9.8 billion passenger-kilometres, 4.9 % less than in December 2012.
