OREANDA-NEWS. The population of the province of Tete, in Mozambique, is making full use of the infrastructure built by Vale, which is benefitting both residents and local business alike. This month saw the inauguration of the Moatize Employment Centre, an eight kilometre section linking National Highway 7 to Cateme, Cateme Market and the area's Water Supply System. All these projects formed part of a memorandum signed by Vale and local government to improve the quality of life of the population.

Local authorities, such as the new governor of the province of Tete, Paulo Auade, took part in the inauguration of these new structures and emphasized the importance of Vale's actions in partnership with government agencies. They also visited the Moatize Coal Mine, which is already at the electromechanical assembly stage to learn more about the unit's production.

Local residents comment on the projects

Construction of the Cateme access road and market was commemorated by local business, as they facilitate the movement of goods. “Now it's much easier to bring goods from the city for sale and consumption. What's more, conditions are far more comfortable now, as we have shade and stalls and everything is organized," says stall holder Ricardo Serri. The Water Supply System, in turn, will help supplement the shortage in the area. “For us, water was one of the most important benefits. Things were very difficult, as we only had well water prior to this supply system," states Mitete-Cateme community leader Lourenço Marizane Engano.
