OREANDA-NEWS  Russia, on its way to import independence, plans to significantly increase the production of rare earth metals (REM), which are used in smartphones, laptops, electric vehicles and even nuclear fuel, but for this it is necessary to implement a number of measures, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and a number of experts told RIA Novosti.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that within the framework of the federal project "Development of the rare and rare earth metals industry" by 2030, it is planned to increase production in the following metals: large-tonnage rare metals over 50,000 tons (lithium, tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, zirconium); low-tonnage metals up to 80 tons (tantalum, beryllium, germanium, gallium, hafnium, etc.).

"In fact, we must achieve an acceptable level of commodity self—sufficiency, reduce the level of import dependence and increase sales from 29 to 100 billion rubles per year," the ministry stressed. In July, Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, noted that the production of rare earth metals in Russia is planned to increase sevenfold by 2030.
