OREANDA-NEWS. May 23, 2016. Power management company Eaton today announced the launch of its OEM Line Isolation (OLI) switch, the latest in Eaton’s expanding portfolio of safer switching devices. The OLI switch enhances the safety of work environments by giving electrical equipment operators and maintenance personnel the ability to access the control panel without exposure to line side voltage.

Maintenance personnel in industrial and commercial facilities rely on these types of panels to provide an organized layout of control circuit components that direct signals to the necessary equipment throughout their facilities. Yet many traditional control panels can expose operators to line side system voltage even with the internal main disconnect in the OFF position. Eaton’s new OLI switch isolates line side power and provides an external disconnecting means for industrial control panels, reducing the risk of arc flash hazards. The OLI switch can be mounted on a control cabinet or disconnect enclosure, which can provide operators safer access to the panel.

Eaton’s new OLI switch is offered as a complete package, including enclosure, disconnect, handle, flex-cable operator and all other necessary components. Innovative features include:

  • Gasketed side wall which mounts to the OEM cabinet
  • Modified heavy-duty safety switch, with NEMA¬ Type 12/3R and 4/4X enclosures available
  • Oversized line shield (internal to the switch)
  • Voltage indicators for the line, load or both the line and load sides of the switch
  • Mechanical interlock
  • Voltage portal(s)
  • Custom flex shaft operator modified to work with the safety switch
  • Flange handle (for mounting on OEM cabinet)
“Eaton remains committed to providing solutions for commercial, institutional and industrial applications that enhances safety conditions for personnel working with electrical equipment,” said John Alexander, product manager, Eaton Commercial Distribution Products and Assemblies. “Our new OLI switch provides improved safety for operations and maintenance personnel, joining our broad portfolio of devices for industries where reliable performance and service continuity are absolutely critical.”
