OREANDA-NEWS Moldova will no longer buy gas from Russia's Gazprom. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was stated by the Minister of Energy of the Republic Viktor Parlikov, speaking at the Euro-Atlantic Sustainability Forum.

According to Parlikov, Moldova refused to purchase Russian gas in favor of alternative suppliers from Europe. "Moreover, we managed to do it at a lower price than the formula that we prescribed in the contract with Gazprom," he added.

In October 2021, the Moldovan authorities agreed with Gazprom to extend the contract for the supply of gas to the republic, subject to an audit of Moldovagaz's debt in 2022. Later, Gazprom representatives stated that the company reserves the right to completely stop gas supplies to Chisinau due to gross violation of the terms of the agreement on the settlement of historical debts.

As RIA Novosti notes, since December last year Moldovagaz has received gas from two sources — from the state-owned enterprise Energocom and Gazprom. At the same time, Russian gas was sent to Transnistria, uncontrolled by Chisinau, and gas from accumulated reserves is used in the rest of Moldova.
