OREANDA-NEWS In the first seven months of 2026, the total volume of Russian oil supplies to China increased by a quarter compared to the same period in 2025. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced a sharp increase in exports of domestic raw materials to a key buyer, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Such dynamics, the deputy head of government noted, allowed Russia to retain its status as the largest oil supplier to the Asian country. "In the first seven months of this year, exports increased by 25 percent," Novak stated during a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

Despite the rapid increase in supplies, a number of experts doubt that such a trend will be long-term. In order to reduce dependence on foreign exporters, the Chinese authorities have relied on the development of green energy (solar panels, wind farms).

Against the background of problems with the import of Middle Eastern energy resources, China has focused on replenishing its own oil reserves, Ron Bousso, a Reuters columnist, noted. This allowed the country to save billions of dollars during the energy crisis. The war between the United States and Iran will only accelerate the process of energy transition in China, analysts agree. With this in mind, it will be difficult for Russia to maintain the growth dynamics of raw materials supplies to the Asian country, they believe.
