OREANDA-NEWS  By the end of January 2024, the total volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from Russia decreased by 8 percent compared to the level of December 2023 and amounted to 2.9 million tons. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to statistical data from Kpler analysts.

The January figure fell slightly short of the record level set in December. At that time, Russian LNG plants shipped a total of 3.17 million tons of LNG abroad.

In January, Japan (0.58 million tons), as well as Spain and France (0.514 million tons each) became the largest buyers of this type of Russian fuel. Since the beginning of this year, most of the cargo has been going to the European market — domestic exporters sent 1.53 million tons there. Another 1 million tons fell on Asian countries.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that by the end of 2024, the total export of Russian LNG could reach 38 million tons and increase by 14 percent compared to 2023. According to him, such dynamics may be influenced by the development of large LNG clusters, including the Arctic LNG-2 project and the complex near the port of Ust-Luga.
