OREANDA-NEWS Russian gas continues to flow to Ukraine in some volume, although the republic buys fuel only through Europe. This was stated by the first deputy head of the Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Alexei Kucherenko, RIA Novosti reports.
He explained that the gas market in Europe is shared, so it is impossible to find out which molecules passed through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, from where gas flows to Hungary and Serbia.
"We don't know what kind of gas we are de facto buying. Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you, we are definitely buying Russian gas, which comes through the Turkish Stream," he explained on the telethon.
There can be no question of recognizing purchases of Russian gas, since Kiev has not declared its unwillingness to use gas of Russian origin, it was only about contracts with Gazprom. In particular, in previous years, Naftogaz used reverse reverse to supply Russian gas, which at that time already belonged to European companies.
Ukraine refused to extend the contract with Gazprom for gas transit to Europe, so supplies stopped on January 1, 2025. Kiev did not rule out the continuation or resumption of gas supplies if it belongs to a company from another country, as in the case of the Druzhba oil pipeline, but it did not come to negotiations.
