OREANDA-NEWS The average price of books in the Russian Federation has dropped by 9% this year compared to 2025 as Russians switch to shopping on marketplaces and "off the shelf," Kontur told RIA Novosti.
"The average price of a book in Russia decreased by 9% compared to the same period in 2025," the analysts wrote after examining more than 3 million checks issued from January 1 to March 20.
According to experts, the price reduction is due to serious competition among sellers. Often, book prices on marketplaces are significantly lower, and many readers have long preferred e-books, Kontur believes. There is also a steady demand for the purchase of books "by hand" on specialized websites, analysts noted.
"All this does not contribute to the growth of demand in ordinary bookstores, and retailers have to adjust to the current market conditions, and if they raise prices, then not sharply," the experts concluded.
It is noted that the strongest decrease in prices was recorded in the Tomsk region - by 38%, Moscow and the Moscow region - by 37% and the Krasnoyarsk Territory - by 30%.
