OREANDA-NEWS The average price of sugar in Russia in 2026 will remain at a relatively stable level due to the good harvest of sugar beet this year, Anton Trenin, an expert at the ACRA corporate ratings group, told RIA Novosti.

"In the 2025-2026 season, sugar production is expected to increase slightly due to a good sugar beet harvest in 2025, which indicates that prices will remain at a relatively stable level," Trenin said.

He noted that the average consumer prices for 1 kilogram of sugar as of September 8 decreased by 3.3% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 72.85 rubles. According to the expert, the price reduction is due to Russia's complete self-sufficiency in sugar.

Trenin specified that domestic sugar consumption is about 5.7 million tons per year, while production in the season from August 2024 to July 2025 amounted to more than 6.3 million tons. The price increase is also being held back by high sugar reserves accumulated due to the beet harvest in 2022-2023.

At the same time, the expert added that with general inflation, maintaining sugar prices will lead to a drop in the marginality of sugar factories. Agricultural producers will be forced to include production costs in the cost of sugar. According to him, the profitability of sugar production is about 10%.
