OREANDA-NEWS Retail grocery stores in Russia will not face a shortage of vegetables and berries due to the ban on their import from Armenia. This was stated by the Chairman of the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies (ACORT). Stanislav Bogdanov. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

The share of Armenian tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries in the assortment of Russian stores is relatively small. To a greater extent, domestic products are present on the shelves, Bogdanov noted. As for imports, their structure is as diversified as possible, he stated.

There is no need to talk about the risks of a shortage of popular vegetables and berries now, the head of the industry association added. The supply chain of large Russian chains is designed so as not to depend on several exporters. This scheme, Bogdanov explained, makes it possible to quickly redistribute volumes between suppliers from different countries.

Earlier, the Rosselkhoznadzor temporarily restricted the import of the above categories of vegetables and berries from Armenia due to their non-compliance with Russian quality standards. Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the State University of Management, noted that suppliers from the post-Soviet country are much more dependent on the Russian market than Russian grocery chains are on Armenian exporters.
