Russia to restrict import of fruits and vegetables from Armenia

OREANDA-NEWS Restrictions on the import of fruit and vegetable products from Armenia have been introduced in Russia since May 30, the Rosselkhoznadzor reported.
"The decision was made in connection with the increasing cases of violations in the supply of Armenian fruit and vegetable products to Russia and in order to ensure phytosanitary well—being," the ministry explained.
The measure will be in effect until an appropriate algorithm is developed to ensure the safety of shipped products. It will affect fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, green crops and strawberries.
According to the agency, the inspection of Armenian enterprises revealed the presence of quarantine facilities in greenhouse complexes, which was systematically confirmed during import — a total of 181 such cases were recorded. The Armenian side has not taken any measures to eliminate the violations.
In addition, a significant part of the products are supplied by participants in foreign economic activity with an unknown form of ownership, who evade quarantine control. The ministry stressed that the current situation poses a threat to the phytosanitary condition of the territory of Russia.
