OREANDA-NEWS  The cost of aluminum rose on Wednesday afternoon to its highest in a month amid media reports about the EU's intention to limit imports of Russian aluminum, according to trading data.

As of 16.20 Moscow time, aluminum futures rose in price by 1%, to $ 2,697.05 per ton, while earlier in the course of trading the price had already risen above $ 2,700 for the first time since January 20.

At the end of Tuesday's trading on the London Metal Exchange (LME), the cost of a ton of aluminum for delivery in three months increased by 0.89% to $2,668.5 per ton.

Representatives of the European Union countries have agreed on the 16th package of sanctions against Russia, which includes, in particular, a gradual ban on imports of primary aluminum from the country, Reuters reported earlier on Wednesday, citing diplomats from the bloc. The British Financial Times, citing sources, noted that the ban would also affect certain products made from Russian aluminum.
