OREANDA-NEWS From April 1, 2024, a new recycling fee will be introduced in Russia, which may make the supply of Chinese cars to the country more expensive. Against the background of stricter requirements for the import of foreign cars, the volume of parallel imports of cars of a number of Chinese brands may decrease sharply, said Anatoly Mironov, associate professor at Moscow Polytechnic University. His words are quoted by Prime.

As the agency's interlocutor clarified, we can talk about a significant reduction in supplies to Russia through parallel imports of cars of the Voyah, Tank, Li Auto and other manufacturers from China. In turn, the positions of the brands Chery, Changan, Exceed, Geely, Haval, JAC, Jetour, Omoda, FAW and Great Wall, represented in the Russian Federation through authorized dealer networks, on the contrary, may strengthen in the medium term, the expert believes.

He added that by the end of 2023, Chinese car brands occupied more than 50 percent of the Russian market. At the same time, a significant part was imported into the Russian Federation using parallel imports. With stricter requirements for the import of foreign cars, there will be much fewer similar cars in Russia, Mironov concluded.

Earlier, Forbes magazine, citing data from Autostat, reported a sharp increase in sales of new passenger cars in Russia. By the end of February 2024, the indicator increased by 85 percent compared to the same period in 2023. Lada became the leader among car brands, and the next seven ranking places were taken by Chinese manufacturers, including Haval, Chery, Changan, Exceed, Omoda, Lixiang and Tank.
