OREANDA-NEWS   The reconstruction of the Moscow monorail into a modern year-round park at a height of 6 meters above the ground will begin on June 28, and the park is scheduled to open in 2027, the Moscow Department of Transport said.

"We are sharing a short work plan: the monorail will be completed on June 28, 2025. Part of the overpass - from the Exhibition Center station to the monorail depot, including the Sergei Eisenstein St. station - is being dismantled to make the view of the Main Entrance of VDNH even more attractive," the department said in a statement posted on its telegram channel on Thursday.

The ministry recalled that the monorail has alternatives in the form of convenient and fast routes through the new metro stations and the Moscow Central Ring, as well as trams and buses with electric buses that partially duplicate its route.

"One of our main values is the team, so after the closure, we will offer new jobs to all employees of the monorail system in other departments of urban transport," the department said.

Earlier on June 2, the Moscow Department of Transport proposed to Muscovites to build a modern year-round park on the site of the worn-out infrastructure of the monorail. In order to make a decision, residents of the capital had to vote on the Active Citizen portal.

On June 24, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that the majority of Muscovites - 71% - agreed with the proposal of the Moscow authorities to create a park on the site of the monorail. The mayor noted that the park space will connect five districts where 300 thousand people live. The expected attendance is up to 20 thousand people per day.

Sobyanin recalled that the monorail has been running for more than 20 years, but it has not been able to become a full-fledged part of the transport infrastructure, has not gained much popularity among the townspeople, and the technologies that were advanced at that time are outdated. Out of respect for the past, a piece of history will be preserved in the park - several wagons will be left.
