OREANDA-NEWS South Korean automakers that left Russia occupied almost 24% of the market, Russian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Georgy Zinoviev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

As the ambassador recalled, the automakers Hyundai and KIA suspended their deliveries to Russia in 2022, the latter also stopped the contract assembly of vehicles at the facilities of Avtotor LLC in the Kaliningrad region. In 2024, the Hyundai automobile plant in St. Petersburg was sold for a symbolic sum with the right to buy back, the deadline for which has already passed. The company previously told RIA Novosti that it did not take advantage of the buyout opportunity.

"Thus, these corporations left the Russian market, in which their combined share reached almost 24%," explained Zinoviev.

He added that currently the presence of South Korean automakers in Russia is "symbolic," according to Russian industry sources, in 2025 their share was only 0.6%.
