Russians rushed to buy broken cars for one reason

OREANDA-NEWS Russians have found a way to buy cars without paying a recycling fee. According to him, the purchase of a car with minimal damage and its subsequent repair was a financially profitable decision.
The adjusted rules for calculating recycling began to take effect at the end of 2025. The innovation has affected the price level of cars imported into the country. At the same time, the increase in the fee did not affect the segment of cars that were damaged, Alexander Korotkov emphasized. Chinese and German-made cars are still the most popular for import.
In January 2025, the average lot purchase price for three- to five-year-old Chinese cars with minor body defects was 839 thousand rubles. For European-made cars, this figure reached 1.16 million rubles.
At the same time, in January 2026, the price of Chinese cars decreased to 754 thousand, and European cars — to 743 thousand rubles. Thus, the cost drop was 10.2 percent for cars from China and 35.9 percent for models from Europe.
