Naftogaz Responded to Putin’s Words about Disrupting Gas Transit Through Ukraine
In accordance with European energy legislation, a gas transit company should be separated from gas producing companies. In this regard, the adoption of European legislation may make it impossible to conclude a new gas transit agreement with Naftogaz.
According to European standards, Gazprom must conclude a transit agreement with an independent gas transmission operator. The current transit agreement expires on December 31. Thus, in order for Gazprom to renegotiate the transit agreement, Kiev must create an independent gas transmission operator before January 1. The risk that the Ukrainian authorities may not have time to do this was stated earlier by the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller.
