OREANDA-NEWS  Starting from August 1, Aeroflot is increasing the frequency of flights from Moscow to Gelendzhik (Krasnodar Territory) to two per day, the carrier said.

The airline has decided to introduce additional flights due to the high demand in this area, the report says.

On July 9, Aeroflot announced the resumption of flights on the route from July 18. At that time, it was noted that daily flights would be operated on Airbus A320 narrow-body airliners in a two-class layout: economy and business. Ticket sales are open from July 10th.

Gelendzhik and a number of other airports in the south and central part of Russia were closed in February 2022 for security reasons. Elista Airport reopened in May 2024. Air terminals in Simferopol, Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar, Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh remain closed.

On July 9, the Ministry of Transport announced the imminent opening of Gelendzhik Airport for domestic flights. The possibility of safe flights to the airport has been confirmed by specialists from the Federal Air Transport Agency and the State ATM Corporation.

According to the Federal Air Transport Agency, the airport is ready to receive and dispatch civilian aircraft from July 10. At the same time, regular flights can be operated from 8:30 to 20:00 Moscow time.

Ivan Tarachenko, the airport's CEO, said that at first the company would be able to take no more than three flights a day.

The largest co-owner of Gelendzhik Airport LLC (manages the airline complex) with a 49.5% share according to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities is VTB Bank, another 40% belongs to Rossiya Bank, 10% belongs to Mirus JSC (as of early February 2024, it belonged to businessman Taymuraz Bolloev), the remaining 0.5% belongs to Evgeny Bazhenov.

In 2021, the airport's passenger traffic exceeded 1.04 million people.
