OREANDA-NEWS   A powerful earthquake was recorded in Ecuador. Its magnitude was 5.4. this is stated on the website of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

The tremors occurred 74 kilometers northeast of the city of Quito with a population of 1.4 million people. The source was located at a depth of 122 kilometers. There was no information about casualties or damage.

Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 occurred on the coast of the Sanriku region in Japan. Local residents were urged to evacuate urgently due to the threat of a tsunami up to three meters high.
