OREANDA-NEWS  Andrei Kortunov, an expert at the Valdai International Club, said that Russia is unlikely to be interested in returning to the G8 format. He shared his thoughts with RTVI.

According to the expert, Russia will not be lured to the G8 even by a personal invitation from US President Donald Trump.

Kortunov recalled that the G8, and before that the G7, is a group of countries united by common values. When Moscow was admitted there in the late 1990s, "we assumed that Russia was moving, albeit not always consistently and not as fast as we would like, in the direction of a Western-style liberal democratic system," the Valdai expert noted.

The expert also suggested that for Trump, multilateral formats, including the G7 and G20, are not the main mechanisms for advancing US interests. The main ones are bilateral negotiations, he concluded.

Earlier, State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa responded to the G7's call for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine. The parliamentarian stressed that the Russian Federation is ready to cease fire on the condition of non-resumption of the conflict.
