OREANDA-NEWS. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the conflict in Ukraine will soon escalate, Reuters writes. He also noted that the heads of the EU countries began to discuss the topic of introducing further sanctions restrictions and assistance to Ukrainian civilians.

Sanctions are discussed all the time. We will discuss with colleagues what the next steps will be,” Borrell said.

The head of European diplomacy spoke about a trip to Kyiv together with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. According to Borrell, he became a "witness to brutal aggression" against civilians in Ukraine.

We will also discuss how we can better support Ukraine and the International Criminal Court,” he added.

Earlier, Borrell announced the need to speed up the supply of weapons to Ukraine. According to him, Russia intends to "bring down the morale" of the Ukrainian fighters, depriving them of their combat capability, and therefore the issue of arms supplies must be resolved in a short time. In addition, he compared the importance of arms supplies with the imposition of sanctions. According to Borrell, Ukraine “needs weapons”, since it is with their help that the outcome of the conflict will be determined, and not due to sanctions restrictions.
