OREANDA-NEWS  Candidate for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet intends to visit Russia in the near future. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Alimov, RIA Novosti reports.

"Bachelet is going to arrive in the next few days. In progress. We hope to accept it," the diplomat said.

Alimov also recalled that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had previously met with a number of candidates for the post of head of the world organization. Among them are the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, and the head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Rebecca Greenspan.

Earlier, Lavrov said that the change of the UN Secretary General gives a chance to restore order in the organization. "The election of a new Secretary General will take place this year. His replacement opens up a real opportunity to restore order in the world organization," the Foreign Minister said.
