OREANDA-NEWS. The meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in Brussels will begin on January 12 at 12:00 Moscow time, RIA Novosti reports, citing the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance.

The negotiations are planned to last about three hours. After the event, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will hold a press conference, which will start at 13.30 (15.30 Moscow time).

As Stoltenberg noted earlier, the meeting will discuss issues related to "European security, especially the situation in Ukraine", as well as issues related to "military activities, mutual transparency and risk reduction."

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, previously informed that Moscow expresses full readiness for a direct conversation with NATO representatives on the draft agreements on the country's security, which she herself developed and proposed for discussion. Zakharova recalled that the Russian mission to the alliance had previously ceased its work at the insistence of the other side.

On December 15, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia sent to the American side the projects developed by Russia, according to which discussions should now take place: draft agreements between Russia and the United States on security guarantees and agreements on security measures for the Russian Federation and NATO member states. In a draft Russian version, for example, it is proposed that the United States abandon the creation of military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not NATO members.
