OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union is preparing a fourth package of sanctions against Russia for its military action in Ukraine. This was stated by the Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Shallenberg.

According to him, on Friday, 4 March, held a special meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkenom.

Shallenberg said that the new anti-Russian sanctions affect major Russian businessmen, the so-called "oligarchs". About which the people will be discussed, the diplomat did not elaborate.

Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell said that the European Union is not waging a war with Russia, but in the current environment supports Ukraine.

March 1 European Parliament unanimously approved a resolution condemning the special operation Russia in Ukraine and calls for tougher sanctions against Moscow. MPs urged to limit oil and gas imports from Russia and to close all ports to Russian ships. They also called for reducing the number of diplomatic missions in the EU countries and completely disable the RF on the international SWIFT system.
