OREANDA-NEWS Hollywood actor George Clooney will receive the Golden Lion for his outstanding contribution to cinema at the 83rd Venice Film Festival. Variety writes about this.

The organizers will celebrate Clooney's achievements as an actor, director and producer. In an official statement, they stressed that George proved himself with equal professionalism in different genres: the war drama "Three Kings", the thriller "Siriana", the crime film "Michael Clayton", the comedies "Ocean's Eleven Friends" and "Oh where are you, brother?", the science fiction "Solaris" and "Gravity".

"In each of these films, he chose the right tone, remaining true to himself: ironic and melancholic, fascinating and thoughtful, brilliant and capable of unexpected depths," the publication says.

Clooney, in turn, called the Venice Film Screening his favorite and added that such an award was a great honor for him. "It probably means that I'm getting old, but I'll agree with that," the actor added.

Earlier, White House Communications Director Stephen Chung declared George Clooney a war criminal because of his criticism of US President Donald Trump. He stressed that the actor commits crimes "with his terrible films and disgusting acting."
