German businesses have become more likely to go bankrupt

OREANDA-NEWS In Germany, the number of bankruptcies increased significantly in the first half of 2026. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Federal Statistical Office of the country (Destatis).
In just six months of this year, 12.8 thousand enterprises went bankrupt in the country. This is 6.7 percent more than in January-June 2025, analysts noted. Prior to this, the rise in bankruptcies was observed in the first half of 2013, they added.
The peak of financial insolvency of legal entities occurred in June: in this month, businesses submitted 15.8 percent more applications for recognition of obligations as unfulfilled than a year earlier.
At the same time, the total amount of creditors' claims against bankrupt enterprises in January-June decreased to 18.5 billion euros. In 2025, this figure was 10 billion euros higher.
Earlier it was reported that the German economy has begun to recover from the long-term crisis. Overall, the eurozone economy grew 0.6 percent in the second quarter of 2026. In the EU countries, growth was 0.7 percent, according to Eurostat.
