OREANDA-NEWS  Germany, which will reduce gas purchases from Russia, has become dependent on Russian agricultural fertilizers, according to an article in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

As the newspaper notes, Germany "got rid of gas dependence on Russia," but it returned "through the back door." According to the statistics service and the Association of Agricultural Industry of Germany, according to the results of the completed season, the import of nitrogen fertilizers indispensable for agriculture from Russia increased by 334 percent.

At the same time, similar statistics are observed in Europe as a whole: in the 2022/2023 season, Russia increased the export of nitrogen fertilizers five times. According to the representative of the Association Martin May, gas and electricity account for 80-90 percent of the cost of mineral fertilizers.
