Germany intends to reduce the issuance of tourist visas to Russians

OREANDA-NEWS The German authorities intend to reduce the issuance of tourist visas to Russians after the incident with the discovery of a drone at Leipzig airport, said Martin Giese, an official representative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl said on Tuesday that Germany intends to tighten entry controls for Russian citizens.
"We want the number of visas issued to be further reduced, and besides, when implementing these measures, of course, we are talking about ensuring entry (to Germany - ed.) only to those persons who do not pose a threat," Giese said, answering a relevant question, during government briefing in Berlin.
At the same time, Giese avoided answering by what criteria the German services plan to identify "unreliable" Russians at the border. According to him, the disclosure of such information would allow circumventing such checks.
Giese also argued that Schengen tourist trips for Russians "cannot continue in the same usual format," and the number of visas issued to Russians for holidays in the European Union is now, in his opinion, "too large."
Leipzig police reported on August 5 that an employee of the city's airport had discovered a UAV with explosives in the air cargo security area. Germany was blamed on Russia, without citing specific evidence of this. Moscow called the incident a hastily concocted provocation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Germany has no evidence of threats from the Russian Federation and linked the accusations against Moscow in the incident with the drone in Leipzig with the difficult domestic political situation in Germany.
