OREANDA-NEWS. The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has compiled Global Peace Index, which reflects the safety level in 163 countries of the world.

According to the ranking, Iceland occupies a first line, as it was a year before. New Zealand is in the second position, Portugal is in the third. The top ten also includes Austria, Denmark, Canada, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Japan and Switzerland.

As for some major, well-known countries, Great Britain became 42nd, France 66th, China 104th, the United States of America 121st, Russia 154th.

The bottom lines are occupied by Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

The report notes that out of nine regions of the world, only two have positive dynamics: North America (Canada and the USA) and the region of Russia and Eurasia (countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine).

Global Peace Index was developed by sociologists and economists of the international group of experts. The ranking has been compiled annually since 2007.
