OREANDA-NEWS. Rescuers have evacuated residents of a village located in the Syr-Darya Region of Uzbekistan, which was flooded after a dam of a reservoir broke. This was reported by the press service of the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the press service, on May 1, at 5:55 (0:55 UTC), a breakthrough of one of the dams of the Sardoba Reservoir occurred. As a result, the village of Kurgantepa was flooded. “Rescuers carried out a temporary evacuation of the population of Kurgantepa to a safe territory. There are no victims and injured,” the statement posted on the Telegram channel says.

Work is underway to evacuate the population of neighboring areas which are also at risk of flooding. However, the Ministry claims that it controls the situation.
