OREANDA-NEWS  Killer whales often enter the bays of Magadan, moving for migrating fish and seals, Yevgeny Metelev, head of the Magadan branch of VNIRO, told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, residents of Magadan distributed a lot of videos filmed in the bays of the city, in which killer whales come close to fishermen's boats or approach the shore. Killer whales are multi–meter marine mammals, which belong to the dolphin family. The length of adult males reaches 10 meters.

"Salmon and Pacific herring are migrating now. These fish species are followed by seals, followed by killer whales that feed on seals. For adults, people are not interesting. First of all, teenage killer whales, who are three or four years old, show interest. They, like all dolphins, are curious. They like to follow the engine, come close," said Metelev.

Such curiosity is not always safe for people, there have been cases when killer whales overturned fishermen's boats. In the cold Sea of Okhotsk, such an incident can cost a person his life, Pavel Klochkov, head of the search and rescue squad of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Magadan region, told RIA Novosti.
