OREANDA-NEWS. Russia will reciprocate if Britain is really interested in improving bilateral relations. This statement was made on Thursday, February 10, by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with his British counterpart Liz Truss in Moscow.

“If this is really the task of our British colleagues, then we, of course, will reciprocate, because we cannot be satisfied with relations, which are probably at their lowest point in recent years,” the minister stressed.

Lavrov called the meeting with Truss unprecedented. The head of the British Foreign Office, in turn, expressed the hope that the upcoming talks will help strengthen European security.

According to him, relations between the countries can be normalized only through an equal dialogue. Lavrov expressed hope that Russia and Britain would be able to restore the mechanisms of bilateral cooperation.

“I hope that we will be able to establish normal interaction ... We will be able to restore the mechanism of bilateral cooperation, numerous interdepartmental ties that were interrupted a long time ago and not on our initiative,” he said.

The head of the British department, in turn, expressed the hope that the upcoming talks would help strengthen European security. As Lavrov stressed, Moscow will reciprocate if the UK is really interested in improving bilateral relations.

Truss arrived in Moscow the day before. The ministers plan to discuss the situation around Ukraine.
