OREANDA-NEWS The Boeing E-3A Sentry long-range radar detection and control aircraft is circling over the territory of Latvia. This was reported by TASS with reference to a source in the air traffic control services of the European Union.

According to the agency's interlocutor, the aircraft, operated by the Netherlands, flies on a circular route. The main part of the route passes over the waters of the Gulf of Riga at an altitude of about nine kilometers. The plane took off from the airbase in Siauliai, Lithuania, where such aircraft have been deployed in recent months.

The source also noted that last weekend the same E-3A Sentry performed a similar flight over Romanian territory near the Black Sea coast. Before that, it was recorded near the borders of Romania and Poland with Ukraine.

It is noted that the Boeing E-3A Sentry belongs to long-range radar detection and control aircraft. It is used to monitor the air situation at long distances, detect aircraft, missiles and other objects, as well as to coordinate aviation actions. According to a TASS source, the equipment installed on board makes it possible to identify and identify aerial targets at a distance of up to 400 kilometers.

At the same time, the agency's interlocutor did not specify the purpose of the aircraft's current flight over the Gulf of Riga.
