OREANDA-NEWS Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff on Thursday.
In turn, Witkoff said that the Russian side had asked for it. He also announced that he would arrive in Moscow accompanied by the son-in-law of the American president, Jared Kushner.
Kushner has already accompanied Witkoff on his trips to Moscow, during which the Ukrainian settlement was discussed.
On the eve of the current visit, the special envoy of the US President noted the great progress that has been achieved in recent weeks on this topic. He expressed the opinion that Russia will agree to an agreement on Ukraine. At the same time, Witkoff clarified that the main obstacle remaining on the way to a settlement are territorial issues.
"Everyone wants to reach a peace agreement," Witkoff concluded.
In turn, Putin said on Wednesday that he also intends to discuss with Witkoff and Kushner the possibility of using Russian assets frozen in the United States to restore territories affected by the fighting after the conclusion of a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine.
Following a telephone conversation with Putin on December 29, 2025, US President Donald Trump also stated that "one or two very difficult issues", including territories, remained to be resolved in resolving the conflict.
