OREANDA-NEWS  Construction of a prototype of the fifth-generation Russian single-engine fighter Su-75, also known as Checkmate, has begun. Vadim Badekha, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), told TASS about this.

"The work on Checkmate is already at the stage of building a prototype," said the head.

According to him, the Su-75 is being created both in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defense and for international customers. Badeha noted that the advantage of Checkmate is its lower cost (compared to a twin-engine aircraft).

In January, the Izvestia newspaper reported that the first flight of the Russian fifth-generation Su-75 single-engine fighter could take place in 2026.

In November, TWZ columnist Joseph Trevithick noted that the Su-75 project looked promising, and the plans for this combat aircraft announced by Rostec State Corporation CEO Sergey Chemezov were "generally correct."
