OREANDA-NEWS Russian Ambassador to Budapest Yevgeny Stanislavov said that Hungary's economy will lose almost 5 percent of GDP in 2023 due to anti-Russian sanctions.

The diplomat drew attention to recent calculations by the Hungarian Institute for Economic Research "Macron", according to which Hungary could lose 3.7 trillion forints (about 10 billion euros). "This is a very serious damage," Stanislavov assured.

Earlier, the United States thought about imposing sanctions against Hungary in connection with its refusal to follow the general policy of Western countries, including with regard to the conflict in Ukraine. Thus, Washington is exploring the possibility of introducing new measures "in order to punish the Hungarian government, including the possible imposition of sanctions against influential persons."

Prior to that, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that in economic terms, Ukraine is a non-existent country. According to him, the country can no longer finance itself. The politician also stressed that when the United States and Europe stop allocating money to Kiev, the conflict with Russia will end.
