OREANDA-NEWS   11 Russian tourists detained in Tunisia are being held in the Mornaguia prison, notorious for torture and poor conditions, the bride of one of the detainees told RIA Novosti.

"It has become known from the lawyer at the moment that they are being held in Mornaguia prison," the girl said.

She added that the conditions of detention in this prison are not the worst, but far from comfortable.

"The food is so—so and very spicy, the main problem is with mattresses and blankets," the tourist's fiancee added.

The girl said that the Russians were not provided with an interpreter, which complicates the investigation. As her lawyer told her, the problem is related to the lack of certified specialists who are allowed to work in the courts. There are only five sworn translators into Russian in Tunisia, and none of them wants to take on this case.

According to her, in early November, a group of 11 people went to the small village of Haidra, located near the border with Algeria, to visit ancient monuments of the Roman Empire. However, after a few days, the tourists stopped contacting. It later became known that local law enforcement agencies had detained them and were holding them in custody. The reason for the detention is still unknown.
Relatives and friends of the detainees appealed to the President of the country, Qais Said, with a request to release them, publishing a petition on the website on December 13 Change.org .

RIA Novosti does not yet have a comment from the Russian embassy and the Tunisian authorities.
