OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian authorities will prepare proposals on a mandatory pre-trial procedure for resolving family conflicts using mediation. This is reported by TASS with reference to the plan approved by the government of the country for the implementation of family and demographic policy.

In addition, before the divorce, it is proposed to hold a mandatory information meeting with the mediator of not only the spouses, but also the children.

Proceeding from the initiative, the dispute proceedings, which are being considered in civil proceedings, will be suspended for the duration of mediation.

These changes are planned to be introduced into the Federal Law "On an alternative dispute Settlement Procedure with the participation of an Intermediary (mediation Procedure)".

Also, within the framework of the changes, it is planned to create a unified register of mediators, including for the settlement of family conflicts and disputes involving children.

The initiative is planned to be implemented in 2026-2027.

The need for a mandatory reconciliation procedure for divorcing couples was stated back in October 2025 by the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Fatherhood, Motherhood and Childhood, Tatyana Butskaya.
