OREANDA-NEWS  The Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation will be celebrated in Russia for the first time this year, the press service of the Russian Society Znanie reported.

"The Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia is celebrated in 2026 for the first time. Symbolically, in the Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia. We are sincerely grateful to the Head of State for this decision. The harmony of traditions, languages and cultures is the wealth of Russia and its strength. Preserving this wealth is our common task," Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, said in a statement.

The Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation will be celebrated for the first time on September 8. On this day, lectures, seminars, promotions and other educational events will be held throughout the country. The organizers are the Presidential Council for the Implementation of State Policy in the field of support of the Russian language and the Languages of the Peoples of Russia and the Znanie Society.
 
"Participants will be able to hear the sound of national languages, learn the history and literature of different nations, try themselves in language games and master classes. Through these formats, we raise important issues of preserving the linguistic heritage and the continuity of our common cultural traditions," Maxim Dreval, Director General of the Russian Society Znanie, said in a statement.

The Day of Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation was approved in order to preserve and support the languages of the Russian Federation by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 4, 2025. It is officially dedicated to the birthday of the outstanding poet Rasul Gamzatov.
