OREANDA-NEWS The death toll from the earthquake in Afghanistan has exceeded 1,450, and almost 3,400 injured, said Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Supreme leader of Afghanistan.

A magnitude 6 earthquake with five aftershocks struck shortly before midnight on Sunday in Kunar, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces, destroying many villages and overloading a fragile health system already weakened by years of conflict, poverty and natural disasters.

"At the moment, the death toll has reached 1,457 people, and 3,394 injured. In the mentioned region, the number of destroyed houses has reached 6,782," Fitrat wrote on his social network page.

According to Afghan media, since the Islamic Emirate came to power in 2021, Afghanistan has already experienced three deadly earthquakes, as well as droughts and floods. Today, it is also experiencing mass deportation of migrants from neighboring countries.
