The tremors were recorded on Monday, June 1, at 22:30 local time (16:30 Moscow time). Their magnitude reached 4.6, which seismologists consider a significant earthquake.

The epicenter of the phenomenon was located 91 kilometers southeast of the port city of Miyako in Iwate Prefecture and 156 kilometers east of the city of Morioka. The source was located at a depth of 33 kilometers. Information about the victims and the destruction is not specified.

Earlier, a powerful earthquake occurred off the coast of Chile. The tremors were recorded 24 kilometers north of the city of Vina del Mar, 3.2 kilometers from the coast of the country. The magnitude of the earthquake reached 6.0, a seismic phenomenon of this magnitude that scientists assess as devastating.
