OREANDA-NEWS  The government of Kazakhstan, headed by Alikhan Smailov, resigned due to the election of a new composition of the Mazhilis (the lower house of the Parliament of the republic), the press service of the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reported.

According to the Constitution, the Government resigns its powers to the newly elected Majilis. Elections of deputies of the chamber were held on March 19. According to the CEC, the largest party "Amanat" took the majority of seats — 62 out of 98. The Auyl party (eight seats), Respublica and Ak Zhol (six each), the People's Party of Kazakhstan (five) and the National Social Democratic Party (four) also entered the parliament. Seven more deputy seats were occupied by candidates who ran for election in the order of self-nomination. On Wednesday, the parliamentarians of the new convocation gathered for the first meeting.
