OREANDA-NEWS  The head of the operational training Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, died in Moscow as a result of a car bombing, said the official representative of the department Svetlana Petrenko.

"According to the investigation, on the morning of December 22, an explosive device installed under the bottom of a car was detonated on Yaseneva Street in Moscow," Petrenko told reporters on Monday. Sarvarov died as a result of his injuries, she added.

According to her, the investigation is working out various versions of the murder, one of which "is the version related to the organization of the crime by the Ukrainian special services."

"On this fact, the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow has opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes provided for in paragraph "e" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code, Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code (murder committed in a generally dangerous manner; illegal trafficking in explosives)," Petrenko said.

She noted that, on behalf of the chairman of the TFR, "experienced forensic investigators from the central office have been sent to provide practical assistance in solving the crime."

"The inspection of the scene continues. The investigation will appoint the necessary examinations, including forensic and explosive engineering. Witnesses and eyewitnesses are being interrogated, and surveillance cameras are being studied," the agency's representative said.
