OREANDA-NEWS  More than 100 thousand Russian citizens moved to Armenia in 2022, the country's Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said in an interview with Vedomosti.

"Net relocation for 2022 is approximately 108,000-110,000 citizens. That is, so many Russians came to Armenia and stayed for permanent residence," he said.

According to Kerobyan, on average, Russians open "500 businesses a year" in the republic. Last year, 2.5 thousand legal entities with Russian participants and another 4 thousand sole proprietors were registered. In some companies, the staff can reach 600-700 people, the minister added.

He pointed out that due to the relocation of Russians, a significant growth of the Armenian economy was ensured — out of a total increase of 12.6%, "relocation created more than 3 percentage points." The overall growth of economic activity amounted to 14.2%, Kerobyan said earlier.

Kerobyan said that Moscow and Yerevan have completely abandoned settlements in dollars and euros and use national currencies. The Minister noted that the dram is still preferable for this, it is less volatile than the ruble, and has strengthened against the dollar by almost 20% over the past year.

In the summer, as the minister admitted, Russians will be able to travel to Turkey through Armenia. The border between the states has been closed for 35 years, but there is already an agreement with Ankara to open it for third-country citizens to cross.
